Kao Phuang Pommelo

A pommelo from Siam. This variety was one of the first pommelos to be grown in our area and the first variety we raised on our initial ten acres. It is a green/white/yellow fleshed variety and pear shaped. It has a tart flavor until it is fully ripe, when it also becomes sweet, especially when it is aged without refrigeration. Compared to most other pommelo varieties, the skin is thin. Its section should also be eaten slowly as different parts of the section taste different. It is also very frost sensitive. We lost all but one of original trees in the really bad freeze of 1990-91.
